A nuclear physicist and successful entrepreneur, Stefano started his career working for 10 years with Nobel laureate Carlo Rubbia at CERN and CRS4, in the field of Accelerator Driven Systems and nuclear waste transmutation. In 2002, he founded Advanced Accelerator Applications, listed on NASDAQ until its acquisition by Novartis for $3.9 bn. In 2021, Stefano Buono co-founded and incorporated the nuclear technology company newcleo, of which he is CEO. The company is based in UK, Italy, France and Switzerland. In just its first year of operation, it raised EUR400m reaching around 200 employees, and currently employing almost 700 by mid-2024. It pursues the goal of bringing forward the most sustainable strategy for the nuclear industry of the future, with innovations that increase safety, reduce costs, avoid mining, and dramatically reduce nuclear waste.
