Joanna Shields

Joanna Shields is passionate about creating responsible technology that benefits humanity. She has spent her career building companies, products and platforms that have transformed markets and reshaped industries. She is currently CEO of BenevolentAI accelerating the company’s growth and transformation from a startup to a clinical-stage, AI-enabled drug discovery company. Shields has over three decades of experience building and scaling some of the world’s best known technology companies, including Facebook, Bebo/Aol and Google. Prior to joining BenevolentAI, Shields served in the UK Government as Minister for Internet Safety & Security, Digital Economy Adviser to the Prime Minister, UK Ambassador for Digital Industries and Chair/CEO of TechCityUK. Joanna is the founder of the WeProtect Global Alliance, a Life Peer of the House of Lords and has recently ended her second term as the Co-Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).
