Fabiana Giacomotti, author, curator, fashion researcher and analyst, graduated in French Literature at Universitร Cattolica, Milan, in 1988, and is a professional journalist since 1994.
She started her career in journalism in television, then shifted to print press, working for “Il Giornale” and economic daily “Italia Oggi” where she founded and managed the “media and marketing” pages. From the end of the Nineties she was special correspondent for the economic weekly “Il Mondo”, then deputy editor of fashion publication “Amica” (RCS group). Following these experiences, she served as editor-in-chief of several publications, including “MfFashion-Milano Finanza” and “Fashion Illustrated”, published in english.
She is actually curator of “Il Foglio della Moda”, the monthly insert of the political and cultural daily “Il Foglio”, and is anchor and author of a weekly tv segment for RAI Italia, the international network of italian national tv RAI. She was appointed lecturer of Fashion Science at La Sapienza University in Roma in 2005 and professor in fashion journalism of the Master in Fashion Studies at the same university.
She has written many essays on fashion history and popular guides, among which โFashion is a novel. Style and elegance in literatureโ, and a guide to fashionable Milan for insiders, “La Milanese chic” also published in foreign countries like the Czech republic and Russia.
She was the curator of some important exhibitions, among which: “Fashioning cinema” at the Museo Mocenigo in Venice on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the opening of the Venice Film Festival. In 2014 she curated the “costume” section and the catalogue of the travelling exhibition for the 60th Anniversary of Italian state television, Rai, working with some of the most important Italian and international archives, and the “costume” section and the catalogue of the exhibition “I Promessi Sposi 2.0” at the Museo Morando, in Milan, where she also curated another exhibit in 2017 (“Inside out. The social life of bags”).
In 2018 and 2019 she curated two other exhibit for Rai in Capri (Certosa di san Giacomo) and Rome (Palazzo Venezia) and in 2023 the most important exhibit on the relationship between art and fashion alongside important art curators (“L’arte della moda. L’etร dei sogni e delle rivoluzioni 1789 – 1968” ) for the prestigious Musei di san Domenico in Forlรฌ. She is actually working on a new exhibition for The Gallerie del Costume di Palazzo Pitti, in Florence. She has published essays for many prominent Foundations, among whom Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana, Fondazione Sapienza and Fondazione Matteotti.
