Alessandro Morelli is the Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, following his appointment by decree of the President of the Republic on 31 October 2022. He was sworn in on 2 November. By decree of the President of the Council of Ministers dated 25 November 2022, he was also appointed Secretary of the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning and Sustainable Development (CIPESS).
Born in Vizzolo Predabissi in 1977, Alessandro Morelli has been a professional journalist since 2004.
Deeply passionate about politics from a young age, he began his political career at the age of twenty, being elected in 1997 as a councillor for Milanโs Municipality 5, and subsequently re-elected in 2001 and 2006.
From June 2010 to May 2011, he served as Councillor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Identity in the Municipality of Milan. In the 2011 municipal elections, he was elected to the Milan City Council and re-elected in 2016, serving until 2021.
An expert in mass media and new media technologies, in 2013 he was appointed Director of the national news radio broadcaster RPL, a role he held until 2018.
In the 2018 general elections, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies. On 21 June of the same year, he was appointed Chair of the 9th Standing Committee on Transport of the Chamber of Deputies.
On 1 March 2021, Prime Minister Mario Draghi appointed him Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility.
In the early general elections of 25 September 2022, Alessandro Morelli was elected to the Senate of the Republic.
