Dr. Amit Prashant is the BIS Standardization Chair Professor and Dean of External Relations at IIT Gandhinagar, where he previously served as Dean of Research and Development and Officiating Director. He also serves as an Independent Director on the Board of Urban Ring Development Corporation Limited, the Tapi Riverfront SPV, and the Gujarat Urban Development Company Limited. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT Roorkee in 1997, and PhD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2004. He worked at IIT Kanpur as Assistant Professor during 2005-2010 before moving to IIT Gandhinagar.
Specializing in geotechnical engineering, Dr. Prashant’s core research interests focus on the constitutive modelling of soils, earthquake geotechnical engineering, and the applications of Geosynthetics through experimental investigations and numerical modelling. His extensive field experience spans projects involving hill slopes, excavations, canals, ash-dykes, barrages, and bridge foundations. Driven by a commitment to professional development, he has designed and conducted several highly popular industry training courses focusing on earthquake engineering, finite element methods (FEM), and geotechnical investigations.
