Born in 1947 in Ahmedabad, Kartikeya Sarabhai is the grandson of industrialist Ambalal Sarabhai and son of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India's space programme. He holds a Tripos in Natural Science from Cambridge University and a postgraduate degree in Development Communications from MIT.
He founded CEE in Ahmedabad in 1984 and has led it since, and was instrumental in initiating SASEANEE, the South and Southeast Asian Network for Environment Education, and represented India at the Rio and Johannesburg Earth Summits. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2012, and is also Chairman of Ambalal Sarabhai Enterprises.
