Professor Niu Jun is a professor of intelligent manufacturing with significant influence in both academia and industry. Currently, he serves as the Chief Manufacturing Officer and Co-President of the Engineering, Manufacturing, and R&D Division at CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.), as well as Deputy Chair of the Academic Committee and Dean of the Yuanbo Future Technology Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Additionally, he holds the position of the Wong Yau Man Chair Professor of Manufacturing Science and a tenured professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, USA.
Professor Niu has achieved remarkable accomplishments in both academia and industry, earning over 40 academic awards. Notable recognitions include the Presidential Faculty Fellowship awarded by President Clinton in 1994, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) William T. Ennor Award for Manufacturing in 2009, the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China in 2013, and the Gold Medal from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) in 2013. In 2020, he was recognized as one of the top 20 most influential professors globally in the field of intelligent manufacturing by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
