H.E. Attilio Fontana

Attilio Fontana was born in Varese on March 28, 1952.

He is the father of three children – Maria Cristina, Giovanni, and Marzia – and has been a criminal lawyer since 1980, running his own law firm based in Varese. He graduated in law in 1975 from the University of Milan.

From 1979 to 1982, he served as Conciliator in Induno Olona, and from 1983 to 1988, he held the position of Honorary Deputy Magistrate at the Pretura of Gavirate.

From 2009 to 2017, he was a member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Vice President of Fiera Milano.

His political career began with the founding of the Lega Nord (Northern League); from 1995 to 1999, he was mayor of the municipality of Induno Olona. He was elected mayor of Varese in the first round in 2006 and re-elected in 2011. During these years, he also served as President of ANCI Lombardia (from 2009 to 2014). He later became a regional councillor of Lombardy and President of the Regional Council from 2000 to 2005.

In 2018, he was elected President of the Lombardy Region. He was re-elected in the 2023 regional elections.
