Abubakar Dantsoho is the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the federal agency responsible for the management, operation, and regulation of Nigeria’s seaports. The NPA operates under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, reflecting the central role of ports in Nigeria’s maritime, trade, and blue-economy strategy.
He holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri, an M.Sc. in International Transport from the University of Wales (Cardiff), and a Ph.D. (Hons) in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University.
Dr. Dantsoho joined the NPA in 1992 and has built his career entirely within the Authority, holding progressively senior technical and managerial roles across headquarters and port operations. He previously served as Port Manager of Onne Port Complex, where he led investor-focused reforms that delivered sustained traffic and revenue growth, before returning to headquarters in strategic leadership roles. He has chaired and served on key national and sectoral committees covering port digitalization, cargo tracking, debt recovery, and major offshore operations, and was Chief of Staff to Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation from 2022 to 2023. An experienced international representative, he has participated in UNGA sessions and Nigerian delegations to the IMO and IAPH.
